Language-learning platform Duolingo has released a new subscription service with two AI-powered features called Roleplay and Explain My Answer, which use OpenAI’s GPT-4 technology to provide students with interactive chatbot conversations and personalized feedback on their language skills. The new ‘Max’ subscription tier cost $29.99 per month and gives users unlimited hearts, no advertising, and personalized reviews through the app’s Practice Hub. The feature is currently available only for Spanish and French courses on iOS, but Duolingo plans to expand the service to other languages and platforms in the future. The company says it’s continuously reviewing AI-generated explanations to ensure that they’re factually correct and in the right tone to avoid any issues similar to Microsoft’s Bing tech.
