Artificial Intelligence has made incredible progress recently, especially with advanced foundation models like ChatGPT. However, they still face difficulties with some specialized tasks due to a lack of domain-specific data. TaskMatrix.AI proposes to leverage these models for task solution outlines and then match sub-tasks to off-the-shelf models and systems with special functionalities for completion. This ecosystem connects foundation models with millions of APIs for diversifying tasks in both digital and physical domains. This position paper explains the vision of such an ecosystem, the key components, and the challenges to address next. The amount of intelligence in the universe is doubling every 18 months, and TaskMatrix.AI aims to leverage this intelligence for task completion in different domains.
