Stephen Wolfram, computer scientist, mathematician, and founder of Wolfram Research, discusses the integration of Chat GPT, Wolfram Alpha, and Wolfram Language. Chat GPT is focused on language, using a neural net to produce output based on a prompt and statistics from human-produced text. In contrast, Wolfram Alpha and Wolfram Language use the formal structure of accumulated expert knowledge to perform deep and broad computations, with the goal of making as much of the world computable as possible. Wolfram notes that while Chat GPT is wide and shallow, the computational system he has been building for the past 40 years is deep and broad.
