Evolutionary biologist and author Richard Dawkins believes that the probability of intelligent life existing in the universe is high, given the sheer number of planets estimated to exist. While the origin of life is likely to be fairly improbable, the subsequent evolution to intelligent life is not so improbable as to make the existence of intelligent life highly unlikely. Dawkins speculates that the most likely method of detecting intelligent life in space would be through radio signals, and that the laws of physics and mathematics governing the universe are likely to be the same for all species, meaning that if there is life elsewhere, it is likely to be Darwinian in nature.
